speed switch damage

Golf trolley speed is changing and jumping about

QUESTION & PROBLEM FAULT:

The problem that I am having with my golf trolley is that the speed is changing and jumping about from 2 to 9 to 0 etc. The speed adjustment is very difficult and inconsistent.  Sometimes adjusting the speed dial the LED speed number does not change and then if you keep on rotating it, it jumps to say 5 or 6.  Other times it won’t move at all.  Can you recommend a solution to this speed-adjusting problem, Thanks.

ANSWER & SOLUTION:

This is a common fault.  JWM Trolleys’ engineer believes this problem can be caused by a fault in the speed control switch.  This can happen for several reasons. 1. Being continually used up and down after years of up and down, the speeds gradually wear and tear.  2. Pressure on the speed know by adjusting with one finger, especially if the knob rotation is stiff to move.  This lateral pressure causes a misalignment of the stem and, therefore, the contact with the resistance contact band.  The same for the reason of the knob protruding out, it can get knocked and bumped easily without notice sometimes.

Most golf trolleys have a speed switch adjustment by way of a rotating knob or dial.  This can be fairly easily replaced by opening up the handle and unplugging the switch.  Removing the small nut holding the switch onto the handle.  Below is a video of a typical handle and procedure to change this switch from an old, broken one to a new, fitted one.

I’m having problems with speed control stuck at 9. a.b and c work fine but looking at the posts re fault I believe this might need a new control switch should I check it or get a replacement

Ricky, With the symptoms you have described I think you are correct. When the a,b,c distance buttons work fine but you can’t scroll the numbers normally, then this would be the speed adjuster switch.
