It’s that time of the year when people start to look around for new golf equipment. I like to get a head start and get everytong sorted for the new season from golf bags to balls and clubs, waterproofs and electric golf trolleys.
One thing I always tend to forget is booking early with the popular competitions, the ones which always seem to be full by the time I remember.
Playing golf in the winter used to look like the photo below. What has happened to the UK weather. I remember not long ago there was an article on the news talking about the Sun, reporting that it had an unprecedented length of NO activity and that low or no sun activity leads to cold winters. Many magazines and instruction articles talk about how to chip and run from just off the green using a system using various clubs.
The general view is use a different club depending on how far you want the ball to fly and by how much you want it to run. This is measured by, lets take for instance a wedge; 50% of the distance needed by air (up to the landing area – the green surface) then 50% of the distance by run (on the green surface), so depending on how far you are from the edge of the green and how far on the pin is on the green. The idea is to get the ball running as soon as possible on the green.
