The retail release of the Titleist 910D2 and 910D3 will be available in 8.5, 9.5, and 10.5 lofts.  TSG only has official Japanese specifications at this moment but it looks like some pretty amazing high end JDM shafts will be arriving like the Diamana ‘ahina 60 & 70(D3 only), Graphite Design DJ6 & DJ7 UST Attas T2, and stock Fujikura Motore shaft.

The 910 D2 & D3 will both feature Titleist’s fitting adapter called “SureFit” allowing the golfer to use interchangeable shafts during fitting sessions which help the player find the optimal shaft for his or her game.  To take advantage of this you will have to visit a Titleist fitting works account.  ” Surefit” is a wrench based system and with a quick turn you can test a variety of different shafts.  It can get detailed at times but all the techno garble is the club technicians problem not yours.  In the end you get a print out and graph with the top selections based on your fitting results.

Firstly, you only get what you pay for! Could it be that some retailers are paying more for quality components and build.

The general view is use a different club depending on how far you want the ball to fly and by how much you want it to run.  This is measured by, lets take for instance a wedge; 50% of the distance needed by air (up to the landing area – the green surface) then 50% of the distance by run (on the green surface), so depending on how far you are from the edge of the green and how far on the pin is on the green.  The idea is to get the ball running as soon as possible on the green.

I was having trouble making use of this method, although I understood how it worked technically, the judgement I found difficult.  I could understand the principle but could not judge for every club the end distance, UNTIL…

I realised not to try to judge the complete distance seen as one measurement from shot to the pin, but to separate the carry from the roll.  This is done by only concentrating on the landing position of the shot.  Firstly, look in your minds eye at how far the shot will roll when using a specific club, and then select the correct club for that roll.  This separates in your mind and execution to only landing the ball where you want it to land, without thinking about the pin distance or anything else.

Although this has very little difference to the teaching method adopted by most, it works for my mind.  I came across this method from learning how to chip for most situations – I learned to concentrate only on the landing position and nothing else!

Check yourself! 

The first thing where most golfers go wrong is, starting to look at their actual swing.  The swing changes so little it’s not the place to start whether it is ‘correct’ or not. 

Always start with the basics;

1. Grip – check your grip is neutral and correctly applied and in the correct position, check your grip pressure and tension at address and through the swing.
2. Club face alignment – check your club is perpendicular to the target, it may look from your viewpoint to be correct, but check it mechanically by placing something down like a ruler, to make sure.
3. Alignment – check your aim by taking your normal address position, just like when hitting a golf shot this year.  Once comfortable put a club down in front of your toes making a line to the target. Step back and make sure the club is on line to your target (slightly left of target due to ‘train tracks’).  Adjust this if is out of alignment, this should be done on the range or practice area first then occasionally out on the course, if not holding anyone back, but never in competition.  This will get you aligning better and most importantly more natural.
4. Ball position – check your ball position by taking your normal address to the ball then like before put a club in front of your toes and another perpendicular at 90 degrees exactly from the ball to in-between your legs.  Depending on the club being used the standard position is from the centre (wedge) to left heel (driver).
5. Posture – have a friend check your posture at address and through the swing and finish.
6. Balance – always complete your swing in balance, if you can not finished balanced, there is something wrong.
7. Movement – check or have checked your movement through the golf swing.  Make sure you keep your movement to a minimum by swinging smoother and not making any fast jerky movements.

Stretching – I am going with a stretching program this year if I can keep to it.  Having held a 5^th Dan Karate since 2003, take it from me for stretching – ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ meaning; slowly and regularly in small steps, it takes time.

This will be my main points this winter season for improvement.  Going for 2 hcp.
